Camp Lejeune is the largest Marine Corps base on the East Coast, home to II Marine Expeditionary Force and tens of thousands of Marines and sailors. If you have PCS orders to Lejeune, here’s what you need to know about lodging — on base, off base, and how Temporary Lodging Expense works so you’re not leaving money on the table.
TLE Quick Facts
TLE Quick Facts — Camp Lejeune
Authorized TLE days: Up to 21 days CONUS (JTR Table 5-13)
Daily TLE cap: Up to $290/day
Standard PCS lodging cap: $110/night
Pet reimbursement: Up to $550 CONUS (JTR 050107)
The exact amount you receive depends on your household size — the calculation is a percentage of the applicable locality lodging and M&IE rates.
Your key booking decision is whether a hotel or rental comes in at or under your TLE allowance.
On-Base Lodging
Camp Lejeune’s on-base lodging is operated through the Lejeune Inn and several transient quarters facilities across the installation. With a base this size, availability and location vary — contact the lodging office directly when your orders drop and ask specifically about family suites if you’re traveling with dependents.
- Phone: (910) 451-2574
- Reservations: Book through the Marine Corps lodging system or call directly
- Pet policy: Limited pet-friendly rooms — confirm when booking
Peak PCS season (May through August) fills on-base lodging fast. Call as soon as orders drop. If on-base lodging is unavailable, get a non-availability confirmation number before booking off base — you’ll need it for your TLE claim.
Off-Base Hotels Near Camp Lejeune
Jacksonville is the primary off-base community for Camp Lejeune families. Most chain hotels are clustered along N. Marine Boulevard (US-17) and Western Boulevard — both within 5-15 minutes of the main gates. Hotel pricing in Jacksonville is generally reasonable and most national chains are well-acquainted with military families.
When searching, look for properties that advertise government per diem rates or are listed under FedRooms.

Whole-House Rentals for TLE Families
The Jacksonville area has solid vacation rental inventory — the coast and the outdoor recreation market keep it active year-round. Weekly rates regularly come in at or under TLE allowances, but may increase due to seasonal demand or special events. But for families spending weeks waiting for on base housing, a rental with a kitchen, yard, and washer/dryer is a meaningful upgrade over a hotel room.
VRBO bookings are reimbursable under TLE as long as the nightly rate is at or under the lodging cap. See our guide to using a vacation rental for TLE for the full process.
Pet-Friendly Lodging Near Camp Lejeune
Jacksonville has pet-friendly options along the N. Marine Boulevard corridor. My Place Hotel and MainStay Suites both accommodate pets, but always call ahead to confirm current breed restrictions and fee structures. Pet policies change and what’s listed online isn’t always current.
Pet hotel fees are reimbursable under JTR paragraph 050107 — up to $550 CONUS total per PCS. Keep itemized receipts showing pet fees as a separate line item for your voucher.
Location Factors You Should Consider
The base is massive. Camp Lejeune covers over 150,000 acres. Your unit’s location on base matters more here than at most installations — confirm which gate is closest to your gaining unit before you book a hotel, or you could end up adding 20 minutes to your daily commute during in-processing.
Onslow Beach. Camp Lejeune has an on-base beach facility — definitely worth knowing if you’re arriving in summer.
New River. MCAS New River is adjacent to Camp Lejeune and shares some facilities. If your orders are to New River rather than Lejeune proper, the same off-base areas apply — Jacksonville hotels serve both installations easily.
Coast proximity. Jacksonville is about 45 minutes from the Outer Banks and 30 minutes from Topsail Island. If you’re doing TLE during summer, rental inventory on the coast is an option for families who want beach access — just verify the nightly rate stays at or under the lodging cap.
Know Your Entitlements Before You Book
There are two different lodging entitlements on a PCS move and they’re easy to confuse:
- If you’re staying near Camp Lejeune on the way to your next station, your lodging is capped at the CONUS standard rate — currently $110/night.
- If you’re moving to or from Camp Lejeune and using TLE, your lodging is based on your family size and the local per diem, up to $290/day total.
