Lodging Near Eglin AFB
Hotels cluster in two main areas: Niceville (closest to the main gate) and Fort Walton Beach (about 15 minutes west with more inventory and beach proximity). Both are solid options.
Destin is about 20 minutes east of Fort Walton Beach, and has upscale resort inventory if you want beach access during a longer TDY or TLE stay — just verify rates against your lodging cap before booking.

Eglin AFB Location Factors You Should Consider
The beach is close. Fort Walton Beach is about 15 minutes from the main gate. Destin is about 30 minutes. If you’re doing a three-week TLE stay, you’re effectively on one of the best stretches of beach in the continental US. Take advantage of it and treat yourself!
Niceville vs. Fort Walton Beach. Niceville is quieter, closer to the main gate, and slightly more affordable. Fort Walton Beach has more restaurants, shopping, and beach access. Both work for military families — choose Niceville if you want convenience, choose Fort Walton if you want more going on.
Destin prices. Destin hotel and rental rates run significantly higher than Fort Walton Beach and Niceville. Great for a weekend trip, but probably not your best lodging cap play for a three-week stay.
Local events. The Destin Seafood Festival and Billy Bowlegs Festival in Fort Walton Beach are both worth knowing about if you’re arriving in fall. Hotels fill up and prices spike during festival weekends — book early if your dates overlap.
Air Armament Museum. On base and free to visit, and worth a few hours if you’re into aviation history. One of the better military aviation museums in the Southeast.

Daily TLE cap: Up to $290/day

The amount you receive depends on your household size and the locality per diem rates at your installation. The overall TLE daily cap is $290, covering both lodging and M&IE combined. Keep in mind lodging taxes are reimbursable separately and do not count against you.
