Fort Liberty — formerly known as Fort Bragg — is the largest military installation in the world by population. It’s home to the 82nd Airborne Division, US Army Special Operations Command, and dozens of other units.
The base sits just outside Fayetteville, North Carolina, and processes one of the highest PCS volumes of any installation in the Army. Whether you’re visiting for airborne graduation, here on TDY, or PCSing in or out — here’s what you need to know about lodging near the base.

Lodging Near Fort Liberty
The Fayetteville hotel market is large but inconsistent — there’s a pretty big quality gap between the better options and the ones to avoid.
Spring Lake, just north of the main gates, has the most military-family-friendly inventory and the shortest commute to the All American and Bragg Boulevard gates. The Skibo Road corridor in Fayetteville has more options overall, but more variation in quality.

Fort Liberty Location Factors You Should Consider
Know your gate. Fort Liberty is massive — the gate closest to your unit matters more here than almost anywhere else. The All American Freeway gate and Bragg Boulevard gate are closest to Spring Lake hotels, but check which gate you’ll be using before booking.
Spring Lake vs. Fayetteville. Spring Lake is quieter, closer to the main gates, and has better-reviewed hotels for military families. Fayetteville has more inventory and more restaurant options but also more variation in quality. For TLE, Spring Lake is the safer choice.
Fayetteville hotel market quality varies significantly. There are properties in Fayetteville with serious cleanliness and safety issues. Check recent reviews before booking anything.
Airborne graduation. Fort Liberty hosts large graduation events including 82nd Airborne and Special Forces graduations. Hotels in Spring Lake and Fayetteville fill up fast for graduation weekends — book as soon as you have a date.
Traffic on base. Fort Liberty has significant on-post traffic, especially during morning and afternoon commute windows. Factor that into your timeline if you’re commuting from off-post lodging.
