Our Hotel Picks Near Travis AFB

The two primary off-base areas are Suisun City (closest to the main gate) and Fairfield (slightly further with more hotel inventory). Both are within 10-15 minutes of the installation. Vacaville is about 20 minutes east if those two are sold out.

Always verify nightly rates before booking — California hotel pricing frequently exceeds the standard government rate. Look for properties advertising government or military rates and ask at check-in, as not all properties advertise it online.

Whole-House Rentals Near Travis AFB

Vacation rental inventory in the Fairfield and Suisun City area is solid. Weekly rates can come in under the standard government lodging rate more reliably than hotels — which makes VRBO a genuinely competitive option at Travis given how tight hotel pricing runs in Northern California. A full kitchen is also a nice creature comfort for longer stays.

If you’re PCSing, VRBO bookings are reimbursable under TLE as long as the nightly rate is at or under the lodging cap. Keep your booking confirmation and get an itemized payment receipt to file with your voucher.

Travis AFB Location Factors You Should Consider

Bay Area cost of living. Travis is close enough to San Francisco that it benefits from the proximity — but it also inherits Bay Area pricing on housing, food, and hotels. Keep this in mind when choosing where to stay, and eventually where to live.

Sacramento proximity. Sacramento is about 45 minutes northeast on I-80 — it’s the closest major city for shopping, medical appointments, and anything you can’t find in Fairfield.

Napa Valley. About 20 minutes west. Worth knowing if you want to explore the area during your stay. Our vote? Treat yourself!

Traffic. I-80 between Fairfield and the Bay Area is one of the heaviest commuter corridors in Northern California. Staying in Suisun City puts you on the right side of that traffic for your daily commute.

A note on California hotel pricing before you book: rates in Fairfield and Suisun City frequently exceed the standard CONUS lodging cap, especially during summer PCS season.

If you can’t find a property at or under the cap, look for properties listed under FedRooms and book through DTS or call ahead to guarantee the government rate. Keep in mind lodging taxes are reimbursable separately and do not count against you.
